All of our optional community service opportunities support local and national nonprofits that we felt would be a good fit for our 8th graders to support. Students choose which non-profit they want to support from our list, pick a date/time/location for the fundraising event they choose to do, and raise money for a great cause. Students can work alone or with their friends. Community Service hours will be given to those who choose to participate. Community service forms that need to be signed can be sent to cotillionkim@gmail.com.
Students are free to come up with their own ideas, or they can choose from this list of 8th-grader-friendly ideas:
Car wash, Lemonade stand, Bake sale, Movie night, Sell crafts, Mow lawns, Rake leaves, Babysit, Garage sale, Tutor younger kids, Dog walking/Pet services, Book sale, Face painting, or they can come up with their own idea.
The possibilities are endless, and any amount raised will help the nonprofits we are supporting!
The Morristown Cotillion has chosen to support several worthy nonprofit organizations this year. These organizations include St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center, The Boys and Girls Club of Morristown, Plaid House, Nourish.NJ and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Students can choose any of these 5 organizations to fundraise for.
Students can set the price for their goods/services and can collect payments however they choose. After the event, we ask that a supervising parent send a check for the amount raised to the Morristown Cotillion. Please reach out to cotillionkim@gmail.com for payment and mailing details.
While many aspects of the Morristown Cotillion have evolved since its inception over 75 years ago, encouraging our 8th graders to be good citizens has remained an important aspect of the Cotillion.
In a world where our students stay busy with academics, sports and their social lives, we are hoping to inspire a sense of philanthropy that can be carried on throughout their lives.
